About NSChE

The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers was officially inaugurated on March 12, 1969 at a meeting at BP House in Lagos. Twenty four (24) Chemical Engineers all trained abroad, were in attendance. At the inaugural meeting, the following officers were elected to run the affairs of the new society:

Treasurer ................... M.B. Yesufu
Ex-officio ................... G.B.A. Hamilton

Following a series of consistent activities, a decision was taken to have the Society incorporated. Thus on December 3, 1981, the Society was formally incorporated under the Companies Act of 1968. Some of the Aims and Objectives of the Society as contained in its Articles and Memorandum of Association are:

  1. To generally foster and promote the profession of Chemical Engineering in theory and practice, and enhance the usefulness of the profession to the public.
  2. To establish and maintain standards of professional ethics among its members in order that the public interest may be served and protected.
  3. To maintain all branches of Chemical Engineering in their proper status among other learned and scientific professions.
  4. To form a body immediately available for consultation with confidence to public and private institutions, particularly government or any of their accredited agents in all matters pertaining to the profession of Chemical Engineering.
  5. To encourage the establishment of facilities for and the prosecution of original, fundamental and applied research into and in connection with all matters pertaining to the profession of Chemical engineering.

 

Organization of NSChE

Board of Directors

The day-to-day running of the affairs of the Society is done by the Board of Directors which is made up of the National President, Deputy President, Executive Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Secretary, Assistant Publicity Secretary and Immediate Past President.

Executive Council

The Executive Council of the NSChE is made up of the Board of Directors, Past Presidents, Chapter Chairmen, Internal Auditor(s), Council Committee Chairmen, and Chairmen of Subsidiaries.

Council Committees

The Executive Council and the AGM create committees in order to promote or facilitate the activities of the society. Some committees of the NSChE are Admissions and Examination, Professional Affairs, Nominations, Training Programs, Welfare, Fellows' Conference, Government/International Relations, Editorial Board, etc.
